28 May 2011 Gif, Paris International Tournament

TR91_ParisThe 6th Edition of the Gif Sur Yvette Paris Touch Tournament took place on 28 May 2011. hosted by Touch Roosters 91.

This is  a very popular event with 23 teams - over 400 players from over Europe taking part.

Match report from Jonny follows:

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who represented Brussels Celtic Touch at this weekends 6th Michel Pelchat cup in Gif-sur-yvette this weekend.

The Gif tournament continues to grow and this year 24 mixed teams participated.  11 countries were represented and a total of 28 Full time ref's were present.  Referee upgrades to Level 2 and 3 were awarded.

There can be no doubt that this tournament is the premiere club level event in Mainland Europe.

The level of touch was again excellent and continues to push higher and higher to the benefit of all.

It was a great day of touch in stunning sunshine and we performed admirably.  Some highlights of the day :

1. Brussels Celtic return victorious and undefeated from Gif-sur-Yvette 2011.

2. I won the best ref's award.

3. and 4. Both the Male and Female MVP awards were taken by Brussels Celtics players....

Guess which one of these things didn't actually happen ?

If you guessed that all of these things didn't actually happen, you'd be right.

Despite everyone giving 100% plus, Brussels Celtics lack of preparation was yet again our downfall.

Unfortunately we were unable to secure any victories this year and unable to score a single try in the first 3 matches.

We must commit to preparing better for all future tournaments.  Only then will we return to the successes we have seen in the past.

Allez Celtics!

On the positive side, I'm delighted to report that our fellow Bruxellians Kituro fared much better, reaching the final of the Plate Competition.

Sarah Leleux (formerly of Brussels Celtic Touch) was awarded ladies MVP for the tournament.  Congratulations Sarah.

Galaxy Worldwide featuring Peter Walters, Marnie Wills and Dan McDowell actually took home the trophy, ending London Otters 4 year run as Gif Champions in an exciting final which once again went to a Drop Off.
